First, I did a lot of research about Saturn's moon. I looked into what methane is and how it can be used to generate power. I also studied the effects of the thicker air and low temperatures on humans. Most importantly, I did research about the surface of Titan and imagined what life would be like there. Then I came up with an exciting world that could evolve on this strange moon. I used this research to write a story that build the foundation for my visual work.

Humanity is on the brink of the abyss. Fatal natural disasters force millions of people to flee their countries. Wars over raw materials claim countless lives and destroy entire cities. The economic system collapses and billions become unemployed. Anarchic conditions plunge entire countries into chaos.

Project Titan is the last hope to avoid extinction. After a strict selection process, passengers are recruited for the space ark. The profession and physical as well as mental condition are criteria after which distinctions are made. It is clear that not all people can leave the earth.

The mission was a success. Titan could be colonized and the first city is named after the discoverer of the satellite: Hyugens City. The people are happy and proud of the new home they have created. They mourn for all those they had to leave behind, but look confidently into a new future.

The city is located under a dome that provides the necessary warmth and breathable air. The dome can be exited through airlocks for travel or to service worker drones. Away from the dome, monumental machines and power plants line up to form an industrial area. Ocean pumps bring liquid water from Titan's underground waters to the surface. Numerous power plants draw liquid methane from Lake Ligeia, providing most of the city's energy supply.

The second generation of native Titanians now inhabits Saturn's moon. The youth are inspired by the stories of Earth. They are struck by how simple-minded life and the people around them are. A scene emerges that wants to be different. The dogmas they grew up under, rationality and functionalism, are at odds with their needs for creativity and expression. They want to express themselves, through art, music and fashion.
The second generation of native Titanians now inhabits Saturn's moon. The youth are inspired by the stories of Earth. They are struck by how simple-minded life and the people around them are. A scene emerges that wants to be different. The dogmas they grew up under, rationality and functionalism, are at odds with their needs for creativity and expression. They want to express themselves, through art, music and fashion.
They condemn life under the dome. Groups form to explore the outside together. They leave the dome wearing rudimentary protective clothing and have illegal body modifications made to them to better withstand the cold. They drastically change their appearance and build their own club in the industrial area.
